Collecting Myself

Spring = sorbet!

Hello bloggingtons! It’s been a long hibernation but spring is sprunging all over the place in Buenos Aires and I’m feeling a bit more invigorated.

Marchmain collection

Not to say I haven’t been busy – in fact, I completed my favourite project of my degree so far: we were asked to come up with a collection that we could pitch to a local brand (I chose Maria Cher) that is in line with our “design DNA”. I really love their classic shapes and the way they manage to use embellishments without going too twee or girly.

My collection was named Marchmain House (after the London house in Brideshead). We worked on the photoshoot with fashion production and photography students from my school, Eamoda. It was lots of fun, if quite stressful with everyone running around, shouting and flinging clothes everywhere.

For my jacket, I designed a screenprint based on the Chrysler Building, only to realise that an embroidery design in Maria Cher’s A/W collection was based on the same building. Sometimes the Fashion Barometer creeps me out.

We also had a video made of the backstage production, which manages to make the whole process look much more glamorous than it actually was. My outfit appears very briefly as all the models had knocked off by then and a fellow student had to model for me.

Issy came to visit me in August and brought me some handprinted fabric she’s been making. She even helped me do my homework a couple of times (shhhh!) and I can’t bloody wait till we live closer together and can do some Really Serious Collabs.

Last year’s catwalk show (my design appears at 05:40)

Preparations are well underway for this year’s catwalk show with the theme Metallic Fauna. As if I needed encouragement to get even more Pat Butcher! As always, the research period means excessive use of Pinterest – you can see my inspiration board here.  This week I’ll be laser cutting leather and printing the fabric for my final design. Oh, and I finished the shirts. Sweet release! Am trying to get some professional photos of them in action – let’s see how long this springvigoration lasts!
